Rafael Nadal will make a comeback to the ATP Tour in his home nation to play the Mutua Madrid Open, confirms the 36-time ATP Masters 1000 champion and the Madrid event as well. It will the 19th time Nadal will be playing in Madrid. He is already a five-times champion in Madrid out of 18 times when he has played.

Nadal has confirmed the news by a tweet, confirming his participation in this year's fourth ATP Masters 1000 event.

He tweeted,

"Despite having a short preparation and facing a difficult event, I can't wait to play at home, where we don't have many chances to do so, "I'll try to do my best. See you in Madrid!"


 


In the semi-finals against Alcaraz, Nadal sustained a rib stress facture, since Indian Wells, although he fought the injury thoroughly and took the court against Taylor Fritz in the final. Later on he confirmed on 22 March that he would be out for four to six weeks and now announces his Madrid return.

Despite being inactive, Nadal leads the ATP Race to Turin behind his 20-1 start to the season. His career best when he started it off to the season is a 20-match win streak, claiming titles at Melboune, the Australian Open and Acapulco before his final run in Indian Wells.

The five-times Madrid champion holds a 54-13 record at the Madrid event, which switched from hard court to clay in 2009. He debuted in 2003 at the age of 16 and won his first title in 2005 at the age of 18 and made to the top 10 in ATP, he was the youngest then to make it to the top 10 in ATP, now Carlos Alcaraz also shares the record being the eighteen-years old breaking in the top 10 in ATP.

In 2021 tournament, he met Carloz Alcaraz for the first time and go a prominent win to make his ways to the quarter-finals.

Nadal will be in action again in the Mutua Madrid Open which is going to be held from 1-8 May at the Carja Magica.
